If you have something that you would much rather remain private, it is not enough to stick that something in a file and hide the file in the nether regions of your system. You must turn to software that can properly hide your data and keep it safe from prying eyes. You must turn to Hide Folders 2009 for help.

Even though the application includes 2009 in its title, it is not stuck in 2009. The latest version, that would be 3.9.3 at the time of writing this, was released in December 2011. Moreover, developer FSPro Labs promises that if you purchase a license for Hide Folders 2009, you will be upgraded to Hide Folders 2012 once it is rolled out.

Should you decide to get Hide Folders 2009 and put it to the test, you must first download a 1.5MB archive to your computer. At such a lightweight download size, it will only take a moment to get the application off the web and onto your computer. Extract the contents of the archive, run the hf2009_setup executable, and after you choose a language from a dropdown menu, a setup wizard will quickly guide you through the installation process. You will be done very quickly.

Hide Folders 2009 can be classified as a security software solution for Windows for the simple reason that it allows you to protect your data from unauthorized access. To be more precise, Hide Folders allows you to make files and folders invisible and lock down folders so others can’t access them. On top of that, you can make folders read-only so they can’t be modified. From the application’s interface you can enable and disable its protection features. To make sure that someone doesn’t access Hide Folders 2009 and disable the protection you put in place, you can password-protect the application so that only you have access to its functionality.

Protecting a folder with Hide Folders 2009 is a very simple process. All you have to do is click the Add button, select the folder you want to protect and select the method of protection you want to use.

Select “Hide” and the folder is hidden out of sight. Other people using your computer will not be able to see the hidden file/folder, but they will be able to access it if they know the path to the file/folder. This protection method is useful if you want, for example, to hide application folders but allow running the applications from these folders.

Pick “Lock” instead and the folder remains visible, but it is not accessible. The “Hide & Lock” option will hide a folder out of sight and will put it on lockdown, should someone be able to somehow find it. And last but not least, pick “Read Only” and the folder will be accessible to other users, but these other users will not be able to modify it.

It must be mentioned here that the protection features Hide Folders 2009 has to offer work with individual files as well.

You can enjoy the functionality Hide Folders 2009 has to offer for free for a trial period of 30 days. The application works with Windows Server 2003 and 2008, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit editions).

Hide files with ease using the Hide Folders 2009 application. For an extra level of protection, lock them too and ensure that no one accesses your data.

Pros

Lightweight download that takes little time to complete, simple installation process that’s done in a blink. Support for multiple languages is provided. With Hide Folders 2009 you can hide, lock, hide and lock, and make files and folders read-only. Put a password on Hide Folders 2009 and prevent unauthorized access to the application. Hide Folders 2009 integrates with Windows Explorer and it clears records of recently accessed documents if these documents reside in the hidden folders.
